BIOGRAPHY

Greg McHale is a former professional world-class multi-sport athlete who has raced for some of the top adventure racing teams in North America. He has made it his life's ambition to pursue hunting and tell his stories through his television production, Greg McHale's Wild Yukon.

Greg McHale is a small-town farm boy whose humble beginnings would make him about as far from what you would expect of a western hunter. Greg lives in the remote Yukon Territory of Canada, just east of Alaska and north of 60 degrees.

His physical and mental endurance was forged and proven in this most difficult human endurance sport in the world, making him a formidable hunter. His determination and ability to never stop the pursuit separate him from other hunting personalities. Greg plans hunts that create opportunities for physical and mental trials, whether involving pack rafts, extreme long distances or massive elevation gains.

Greg's experience in big wall climbing, mountaineering, paddling and trekking make him an elite hunter. Excellence as a rifleman and archer round out his hunting resume.

Greg is not only an athlete, but he is also a pilot on wheels and floats. He uses his aircraft to scout for game and brings the team far off the beaten path. Landing on remote airstrips, skis, or lakes and rivers, Greg's skills as a bush pilot open the vast landscape of the wild Yukon to his expeditions.

An unwavering desire to live life to its fullest drives Greg to push himself and his team to be all they can be, both in their dedication to hunting and to create engaging, inspirational and educational hunting content. While Greg does all he can to harvest mature Dall's Sheep, Yukon-Alaska Moose and Wood Bison trophies, he also believes in the many other elements that hunting brings to a hunter's life. The camaraderie, the spirituality inherent in spending days and weeks in the bush, and the requirement to maintain year-round fitness push Greg to hit the hills each year with enthusiasm and passion.

In recent years, Greg has brought his young son, his wife Denise and his father on hunts, building memories and experiences that inspire his followers and create powerful and meaningful memories for his family.

Always seeking to improve his capabilities, Greg has adapted his hunting skills to include Really Right Stuff tripods in recent years. This development has enhanced Greg's abilities as a hunter. He is now an enthusiastic convert to tripod shooting and seeks to help his followers improve their success rates by using quality tripods for glassing and shooting.

GREG AND REALLY RIGHT STUFF

Really Righ Stuff has a select number of hunters, shooters, and competitors we call our "Champions." These champions are at the forefront of product testing, application, instruction, and act as the bridge between RRS and our customers. It's these champions that help expose unfamiliar people to the Really Right Stuff brand and quality tripods and support mounts we manufacture.

Greg McHale is the flagship Champion within the hunting community. He has single handedly shown the value a tripod brings to the rigours of hunting in some of the most extreme conditions. Greg has taken his tripod through the deep snow to the high mountains all in pursuit of the ultimate trophy to bring home. When Greg initially reached out to us it was an easy decision bringing him on board.

On top of his expertise in the hunt, Greg has proven to also be an insperational human and motivator. Greg is considered a part of the RRS family and we continue to look forward to Greg's Wild Yukon adventures.

TRIPODS & HUNTING

TRIPODS FOR SHOOTING

"Tripods are standard equipment for military, law enforcement and precision shooters, and hunters don’t appreciate how much steadier a shot from a tripod can be. If you’ve never shot from your tripod, watch my video to learn more."

TRIPOD SELECTION

"There are many tripods out there, and selecting one is not an easy decision. Which type of tripod will work best for you will depend mainly on the type of hunting you do, and the conditions of a typical shot. If you’ve never used a tripod for shooting, you are missing out on an outstanding asset. I have come to love shooting off my tripods, and a quick survey of competitive, military and law enforcement shooters will reveal that tripods are considered to be standard equipment for shooters."

TRIPOD, BIPOD, OR BOTH?

"The tripod changes the equation. I definitely need a tripod for my spotting scope and, sometimes, binoculars. Now that I have a rifle and tripod system that allows me to shoot with ease, I’ve fallen in love with the outstanding versatility and performance of this new system. So where does this leave the bipod?"

THE MOUNTAIN HUNTING TRIPOD

"The Really Right Stuff TFCT-14 with the Anvil-30 ARC allows for smooth panning, letting me focus on what I’m looking at instead of trying to get a good sight picture. The TFCT is built with premium carbon fibre tubes, offering incredible stiffness in a lightweight package and can withstand a stout breeze before I have to look for cover from the wind. The 1/4-turn sealed twist locks make extending the legs a breeze."

TRIPOD SHOOTING FOR YUKON-ALASKA MOOSE

"I hunt moose during and after the rut and face high brush as a serious obstacle. Prone and seated shots are rarely possible, and if they are possible, they are likely very long shots. A tripod will be the best approach in these cases, and I will have plenty of time to set up and choose my shooting position."

THE BEST TRIPOD FOR MOUNTAIN HUNTING

"I need a tripod head to allow smooth glassing with the spotting scope and binoculars and act as a linkage to my tripod that performs when it’s time to take that shot. I’ve been using the Anvil-30 ball head from Really Right Stuff. It ticks all my boxes, including some I didn’t know I had."
